The London Eye is one of the more recent and contemporary additions to London's historic attractions. This huge Ferris wheel is located on the edge of the Thames River in Jubilee Gardens, and was built as part of the millennium celebration. It took 1.5 years to build and is constructed from 1700 tons of steel and 3000 tons of concrete. The wheel is 135 meters high and has a diameter of 120 meters, with 39 sealed egg-shaped capsules that can each hold up to 25 people. One full revolution takes about 30 minutes, and passengers board and disembark without the wheel actually stopping.
