Care routines to copy

Toddlers watch the way adults feed, rock and settle a baby, then repeat it on their own. Dahlia gives them a soft, huggable baby to practise on. You'll see them tuck her in, pat her back and say "shh" in the same voice they hear from you.

Around 18 months, children begin copying everyday routines. Feeding, rocking and cuddling a doll builds the sequencing and fine motor control that later go into dressing themselves.
