The bedtime routine they already know
Children watch the bedtime routine closely, and they want to copy it. This crib gives them the real thing: a rocking bed, a pillow and a doona blanket to fold back and smooth down. Tucking the doona around a doll's shoulders takes controlled finger and wrist movements, and the same hand control later goes into fastening buttons and zips.
Rocking that children control
The curved base rocks with a light push, so even a 12-month-old can set it moving. Children quickly learn that a gentle nudge gives a slow, steady sway and a hard shove does not. That cause-and-effect lesson in gauging force is a big part of how they learn to care for something fragile. The rocking is quiet, so it works well in a bedroom or living room while a baby sleeps nearby.
Built to be played with daily
The frame is made from sustainable birch plywood, solid beech and engineered wood, finished with water-based, non-toxic dyes and lacquers. The bedding is 100% cotton. It needs adult assembly, then it is ready for everyday play, from toddlers carrying dolls over to older children who set up whole nurseries. Measuring approximately 40cm long x 32.5cm wide x 30cm high, it fits on a bedroom shelf or in a play corner without taking over the room. It suits small baby dolls, so check your child's doll against the 40cm length before ordering. Pair it with a doll from our dolls and accessories range, and with the Kinderfeets Walker Pram, so the set can grow as the play does.
Where it leads
At 12 to 24 months, the play is about putting a doll in and out, and rocking. From 2 to 3 years, children add narration: "shh, she's tired." By 4 years and up, the crib becomes part of a larger story with a family, a bedtime and a morning routine, which builds the language and sequencing skills that carry into early storytelling.
