Where the cooking starts
A child walks up, opens the oven door and slides the casserole pot onto the internal shelf. Then the teapot comes out, two cups line up on the bench and the wooden spoon goes to work. Each step is a small sequence they plan and carry out themselves, which builds sequencing and planning at around 3 years.
This play kitchen includes everything for that scene: teapot, two cups, a casserole pot with lid, a wooden spoon, a spatula and a fabric tea towel. Nothing needs to be bought separately to get started.
Built for repeat play
The frame is reclaimed rubber wood with non-toxic paint, so it has the weight to stay put when a child leans on the bench or pulls open the oven. Lifting the casserole lid, balancing the teapot and pouring into cups all build the wrist control and grip a child later uses for holding a pencil and using cutlery.
Opening the oven and sink cupboard also gives children real practice at putting things away and finding them again. The three pegs and top shelf give the tea towel and utensils a home.
Room for two, space for stories
The bench is wide enough for two children cooking side by side, so taking turns and sharing roles (one stirs, one serves) comes up naturally. It works just as well for solo play, which suits the stage when children rehearse daily routines on their own. Play is quiet, with soft wooden sounds and no electronics.
Measuring approximately 62 cm wide x 27.5 cm deep x 75 cm high, it fits against a living room wall or in a bedroom corner without taking over. As children grow, the scenes grow too: from simple stirring at 3 to running a café with orders, menus and customers by 5. Self-assembly is required and instructions are included.
