Start with a single click
Hand a toddler two pieces and watch what happens. They press, they wobble, they pull them apart and go again. Every join is a small lesson in cause and effect, and the click tells them they got it right. That makes this a good first building set, because success comes fast. The pieces measure about 50 mm x 30 mm, which is the big step up from the original Plus-Plus and the reason this range suits toddlers. Pressing a piece into place takes real hand strength, and pulling it free works the same pincer and wrist muscles children later use for holding a pencil and turning a page.
Flat first, then up
Most children begin by laying pieces side by side to make a colourful floor mosaic. Around 3 years, they start stacking and connecting in every direction, and flat designs turn into towers, bridges and animals. By 4 or 5, you will see them planning a build before they start, choosing colours on purpose and counting pieces as they go. The mix of basic colours supports sorting and pattern-making along the way. Lining up red, blue, red, blue is early maths, even if it looks like play. No instructions are needed, though an idea booklet is included if they want a starting point.
Easy to live with
There are no batteries and no sound beyond the click of plastic, so it is easy to set up at the kitchen table while you cook. The plastic is BPA-free and phthalate-free, and it wipes clean after a sandpit day or a sticky morning tea. The set grows with the child and with the collection. These BIG pieces connect with other Plus-Plus BIG sets, such as the BIG Learn to Build set, and with BIG baseplates, so a 100-piece start can become a much larger project over time. Please note these are not interchangeable with the small original Plus-Plus pieces, which are not suitable for children under 3. Supervise children under 3 and check the age grading printed on the pack.
