The first glide
Every child has a moment on a balance bike when both feet lift and the bike keeps rolling. It might last one second. It is the start of the balance and steering coordination that pedal bikes demand later. This bike is built around that moment. The seat sits low, the frame is open at the front, and the foot pegs give resting feet somewhere to go once the glide gets longer.
Built for the wobbly early weeks
Around 2 years, most children can walk confidently but still tip over when trying to manage a bike. The low step-through frame means they can climb on by themselves, which builds independence before the first ride has even started. The handlebar grips are non-toxic and fitted with protection bumpers. There are no pedals or chain to catch shins, so the only job is pushing and steering. Pushing off with alternating feet strengthens the legs and hips. Steering the front end teaches the head, hands and body to work together, the same coordination a child uses on a pedal bike. By 4 or 5 years, many children are coasting with both feet up and leaning into corners.
Sizing and fit
The seat adjusts from 30cm to 38cm, so the bike can be set to suit a toddler's inseam now and raised as they grow. Measuring approximately 84cm long x 35.6cm wide x 55cm tall, it is compact enough to stand in a hallway or fit in a car boot. A rider's feet should sit flat on the ground with a slight bend in the knee. The bike carries riders up to 30kg. The frame is sustainably sourced birch finished with non-toxic, water-based paints and lacquers. Assembly is needed, and instructions are included. It is a rider for outdoor paths, driveways and parks. In the Australian summer, pair it with a helmet and sunscreen and ride in the cooler parts of the day.
